ILOILO City- The Iloilo City Population Office in partnership with the Commission on Population (POPCOM) plans to launch the You-for-You (U4U) Teen Trial in two more public high schools here.
The U4U is a communication campaign initiated by POPCOM which aims to prevent early sex among teens.
"This year, we plan to run the U4U Teen Trail in two other public schools which are Ramon AvanceƱa National High School and Iloilo City National High School," said Rachelle Lapascua, City Population Program Officer II.
The U4U Teen Trail was already launched in Jalandoni Memorial National High School, Fort San Pedro National High School and Mandurriao National High School.
The U4U Teen Trail also targets to increase Filipino youth's awareness on delaying sexual debut, preventing teen pregnancy and avoiding sexually transmitted infections.
The targets of U4U Teen Trails are teenagers aged 10 to 17 years old.
Based on the record of City Population Office, there were 1,753 cases of teenage pregnancy in 2016 which is lower compared to 2015 with 2,266 cases.
However, while the City Population Office noted that there was a drop in the total number of teenage pregnancy, cases of girls aged 10 to 14 years old who got pregnant in 2016 increased.
Out of 1, 753 cases of teenage pregnancy in 2016, there were 18 girls, aged 10 to 14 years old who got pregnant.
Ramon Tentia, Program Officer II, said the U4U Teen Trail is expected to be launched in two schools in the third quarter of this year.
Tentia also said the U4U Teen Trail will be a good tool to educate the youth especially on the ill-effects of early sexual involvement.
Meanwhile, aside from U4U Teen Trail, the City Population Office also has Kwentuhang Pangkabataan and Adolescent Health and Development Programs for in-school youth and out-of-school youth
